Cornea Services

What is a Cornea:

Cornea is the clear, transparent tissue covering the front of the eye. It serves as a window to allow light to enter the eye

Vision will be dramatically reduced or lost if the Cornea becomes cloudy due to disease, injury or infection.

Zamindar Eye Centre provides care and treatment for Cornea diseases.

Treatment of common corneal conditions like

  • Infections-Fungal, Viral and Protozoal
  • Recalcitrant Allergic Conditions
  • Keratconus management from contact lens fitting to Collagen Cross Linking
  • Chemical/Mechanical /Thermal injuries treatment-Surgical and Medical Management

Keratoconus is a disease where the cornea becomes thinner than normal, and subsequently starts bulging forward. This causes a blurring of visual images and is a known progressive condition. This is caused due to childhood eye allergy and rubbing habit.

  • Kerotometry is a diagnostic instrument for measuring the curvature of the anterior surface of the cornea, for assessing the extent and axis of astigmatism
  • Corneal collagen cross-linking is a technique which uses UV light and a photo-sensitizer to strengthen chemical bonds in the cornea. The goal of the treatment is to halt progressive and irregular changes in corneal shape..
  • C3R a procedure that aims to stabilize a keratoconic cornea. Kerarings are implantable rings inserted into the cornea to flatten the corneal cone, and helps to improve vision of the patient.

Lasik Surgery is a surgery used to correct vision in people who are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism. LASIK is a surgical techniques used to reshape the cornea. This surgery will give total freedom from glasses.

Contact lens is thin curved lens placed in the eyes. It provides an artificial refracting surface to the human eye and is used to correct vision problems like myopia and hypermetropia / astigmatism

Features of Contact lenses: The lenses are made of different materials. Based on the material, there are soft, (RGP) rigid gas permeable and hybrid contact lens. Contact lens comes in a variety of designs and colours. The initial fitting and follow up care are important to give maximum benefits of vision, appearance and comfort.

Advantages of contact lenses: Contact lenses are capable of correcting most of the problems the spectacles can as well as some additional ones that glasses cannot. People not satisfied with their appearance using glasses can opt to use contact lenses for improved appearance. Contact lenses are not in the danger of slipping off, getting wet, or fogging up, which can easily happen with spectacles. Extremely high hypermetropia or myopic people feel better wearing contact lenses as compared to spectacles, Moreover, contact lenses give improved vision for people with damaged corneas due to disease or injury. Contact lens is more practical for sportsperson. In addition to all these, contact lenses provide better peripheral vision compared to glasses.

Follow up care: The contact lens is an external device made of CAB /Silicone hydro gel situated over the cornea and so appropriate care of the lenses and subsequent follow up checks are very important to maintain the lenses as well as for the health of the eyes.

Check-Up: The first time contact user must come for a follow-up check-up within a week, and then an annual check-up is necessary.

  • Sleep wearing contact lens,
  • Wear contact lens without cleaning them with cleaning solution ( within expiry date)
  • Continue wearing contact lens when eye becomes red or irritable
  • Forget to change the solution of contact lens case daily
